Frequently Asked Questions - Photoshop Plug-In
Question:

I have Elements 8 and installed the Perfectly Clear Plug-in but it does not appear under Filters

Answer:

Unfortunately sometimes Elements 8 does not properly detect 3rd party Plug-ins. Here’s what you need to do:

Close Elements 8. Run the Perfectly Clear installer once again and select Specify Other… option for installation target (uncheck other options) and point it to any location on the disk such as c:\tmp. After installation you will have two folders at selected location: “Athentech” and “Athentech_64”, each containing version of the plugin for respective version of Photoshop (32 and 64 bit). For Elements you need 32-bit version, thus you need to copy “Athentech” folder with all its content to Element’s plugin folder location which is one of the following locations :

-If you are on 64-bit OS: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0\Plug-Ins, or
-if you are on 32 bit OS : C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0\Plug-Ins

Then run Elements and you’ll see “Athentech/Perfectly Clear” appear under Filters

Question:

Will the Perfectly Clear Plug-ins work with Lion on my Mac?

Answer:

Yes. Perfectly Clear is now compatible with Mac OSX Lion 10.7

Question:

Are the Perfectly Clear Plug-ins color managed? Occasionally my final result using the Lightroom Plug-in looks slightly different to the result using the Photoshop Plug-in.

Answer:

The working space for all Perfectly Clear analysis and calculations is sRGB. The original and processed medium resolution images are converted to device profile for preview for color management consistency. Occasionally you may notice a slight difference between the final result from our Photoshop and Lightroom Plug-ins (especially if you are working in 16 bit ProPhoto). This is due to Adobe’s internal color engines and how they convert and display between color spaces in Photoshop and Lightroom. As both of our Plug-ins are properly color managed the result will always look the same in the Plug-in window, but the final output may look slightly different when you are working in varying color spaces.

Question:

I have both the Lightroom and Photoshop Plug-ins. I've just created a custom preset in Lightroom, do I need to create this in Photoshop as well?

Answer:

When you create a custom preset in one plug-in - it will automatically appear in the other! We've designed this so your workflow will be streamlined, regardless of which product you are using.

Question:

When I try to run the Perfectly Clear plug-in I get the following errors: “Nalpeiron: Unable to install service” or “- 11 error: execution error: service install”

Solution:

These are related to Nalpeiron, our license provider.  These errors occur when you have an older version of Nalpeiron on your computer (which would happen with another piece of software for example).  It is easy to fix, just some details to follow-through (alternatively drop us a line and we can call you and walk you through the steps):

  • Step 1: Uninstall the service:
  • Click on Start -> Run and enter "regedit" to open the Registry Editor.
  • In the Registry Editor, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\
  • Go to nlsX86cc (may also be installed under ASTRV) and delete that entry.
  • After you've deleted the above please double check to make sure that all instances are deleted.  Also start at this step if you don’t find “nlsX86cc from the above file path:
  • Go Edit  menu -> Find. Check the "Data" checkbox, and uncheck all the others.  In the edit box, enter "Nalpeiron Licensing Service". Click the "Find Next" button. Delete any further registry entries that are returned.  Continue until there are no more entries returned.
  • Reboot the computer
  • Then, right-click on the Perfectly Clear Installer and choose "Run as Administrator" (in Vista and Windows 7) or "Run as..." and enter the Administrator account's details (in XP).

Question:

I have the German version of Photoshop – how do I use Perfectly Clear?

Solution:

Perfectly Clear normally appears automatically under filters, but occasionally when running in the native German language it doesn`t.  There are 2 solutions to fix this:

  1. Move PerfectlyClear.plugin to /Zusatzmodule (possibly to /Zusatzmodule/Filters or German equivalent of the Filters subfolder), or
  2. In Photoshop - Preferences - Plug-ins (or German equivalent) select Use Additional Plug-ins folder and navigate to select folder where PerfectlyClear.plugin is actually located.
